I bought this china cup on my way home Saturday in a distinctly incurious curiosity shop. Why the double handles? Is it a child's cup? Or a soup cup? I looked up the maker's mark and according to this entry at DinnerintheDiner.com, the pattern is called Mistic and it was made by Syracuse China from 1910-ish to 1940-ish for the dining cars of the Florida East Coast Railway. I wonder how many people leaving chilly New England for a vacation in Florida started the journey with a cup of joe in this cup? Or chicken noodle soup, as the case may be. I love the internet.
